Before school started in September we thought we'd take the kids on one last jaunt: The Palm Springs Aerial Tram. We ascended up the mountain in the windowed tram and then took a couple of trails up and around the mountain. The kids thought that the sighting of a mere squirrel was amazing, that the dirt there was even better to paint in than the dirt in our own backyard, and that the rocks, sticks, and stones were the coolest nature made weapons. The kids climbed on rocks, ran ahead of us on the trails and gathered many a pinecone. We had fun just hanging out as a family and ended up eating lunch at the restaurant with a view up on the top of the mountain. (The last picture shows Ainsley learning the intricacies of a common household straw.)We've been trying to make it more of a goal to get the kids outside and learning more about the environment, nature, and the planet. They came home with rocks in all of their pockets found later by our washing machine, and a few hitchhiking sticks. A new hobby for the kids has been rock-collecting since our Risenmay Reunion in Yellowstone and Aubrey always labels several in their collection as obsidian, but I think that's just because she thinks she sounds so educated when she specifies "Obsidian." Little did Aubrey know that in later months for Christmas, Santa would bring her a rock tumbler.
By the way, that picture of Maverick was him showing us his "Surprised" face. Very convincing.
